One of Queensland’s hardest working party starters, engineering all manner of social interaction in rooms big and small, DJ Mr Sparkle seeks to create a party vibe from a playlist encompassing tunes from every genre, having commenced his DJ career in 2000.
Taking on any situation, Sparkles’ backs himself with a lifetime of interaction with music, calling on influences such as a music teaching mum, early years of soul and funk immersion and roller skating discos, through to the Manchester sounds of the 90’s, acid jazz and old school rnb and hip hop. All the while incubating an interest in the emerging rave, house and club sounds of the time.
For over 20 years, Sparkles was a mainstay at the best of Queensland’s club and bar rotations, taking on The Met, Blackbird, The Family and Fluffy, The Fox, Next Hotel, Press Club, Zuri, The Wickham, Uber, GPO, Main Squeeze, Monastery and Jorge, Muller Bros, Osbourne Hotel, Isles Lane, Byblos, Bacchus and Stoke House Brisbane.
Then in the warmer months, Sparkles filled his days with festival outings such as Listen Out, Future Music Festival, Stereosonic, Summerfieldayze, the legendary BBQ Breaks, Parklife, Brigalow Beatz,and the like and performs as a DJ under various guises, including Skorpio, The Affair Aus with Sharif D on sax and DUBS, the down under beatmasters, his live band collective incorporating some of Brisbane’s all star musicians.
Sparkles has also been an ARIA Club Chart DJ since 2013 and is without a doubt an unstoppable DJ party force and is always bent on shenanigans.
Since signing with The Pushworth Group in 2019 and moving to the Sunshine Coast, Sparkles currently holds down Pushworth monthly Friday residencies at the Palmwoods Hotel, Beerwah Hotel and Saturdays at Archive Beer Boutique in Brisbane.
Not forgetting Sparkles’ stellar record of entertaining Corporate events over the last few years including the Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival, Brisbane City Parklands Streets Beach Xmas and Summer Events, Subway Conference at Seaworld, Brisbane Marketing at Streets Beach Southbank and Riverbar, Michael Hill Jeweller International Conference at the Sheraton Waikiki, supporting international superstar Taio Cruz and Australian Idol winner Stan Walker and in Bali playing at Karma Kadara Resort’s Nammos Beach Club!
Plus Sparkles has had some cracker interstate guest spots in Sydney at The Ivy – RnB Fridays, the Sand Bar – Chinese Laundry, Ministry of Sound featuring Boy George – The Ivy as well as the Ministry of Sound Classics and Reunion tours at The Prince Consort, Night Quarter and The Station on the Sunshine Coast and DJ supports for Hot Dub Time Machine in Brisbane.
Sparkles is also an approved Teacher with DJ School Australia on the Sunshine Coast commencing in 2020, giving DJ lessons from his home studio and owns his own record label Silicon Sunshine Music with business partner Cameron Yuill.
